PERIODONTAL DISORDERS

Periodontum disorders , including gingivitis and periodontitis are serious infections, which if left without  any treatment can cause the loss of teeth.

Untreated gum inflammation can turn into periodontal disease. As time passes, bacterial plaque and tartar accumulate and penetrate below the gum, becoming impossible to remove by brushing. The toxins produced by the bacteria cause a chronic reaction by the immune system – more growth of the inflammation and a slow disappearing of the bone and gum. Gums separate from the teeth resulting in the development of so-called pockets, which are infected with bacteria. If the disease is not treated, these pockets deepen and more and more bones and gums disappear.
Periodontics is a destructive process, and left without professional care can lead to a total teeth loss.
Modern treatments allow to stop the progress of the disease and to reduce the depth of the above-mentioned pockets. For many patients, the reduction of the pocket size and motility of the teeth are so eminent that surgical treatment is not needed.

If deep pockets (above 5mm) remain despite the non-surgical treatment, they provide a perfect place for bacteria and calculus retention and are not possible to clean at home. Such a situation requires a thorough cleaning performed by a specialist and sometimes even a correction of the gum and bone affected.
